Detox

I love Christmas time, but boy does it throw off a schedule! Not only sleep, but it's an excuse to eat too much food- good food- like hardy meals and desserts, as well as toasting with fancy drinks.

I have a counter full of bread and cookies. Treats that are only made during the holidays. I can't walk into the kitchen without thinking about having a cup of tea with a butter tart. 'Cause if I'm going to indulge, it has to be a real, high-calorie dessert.

I'm pretty disciplined during the year though, so already I'm thinking about an exercise routine and getting back to 'normal.'

When do you start or do you start an exercise regime after the holidays? And what's your plan? I'd like to know. You can Facebook /Charlene.groome or Twitter me. @charlenegroome

My three year old says, 'I'm asking Santa for pixie dust so I can fly!'

I guess if our Elf on the Shelf can fly, then, why can't she?

SANTA VRS SANTA

Last week, my husband and I met up with family to meet Santa who flew in by helicopter. Pretty cool. The kids were amazed. Yesterday, we met up with my husband's side of the family for a private visit with Santa at a different location. Even cooler. This Santa was older with his own white beard and ho-ho-ho voice versa the first Santa we saw, who was soft-spoken, had a long, fake beard and not a wrinkle on his face. It didn't take long before our smarty-pants, five year old picked up on it. "Why are there two Santas?" she asked my husband when we left the event. He answered, "what do you mean?"

"Well, the last Santa had a long beard and this Santa has a short beard."

My husband thought she was going to say their eyes were different colours - that's how detail oriented she is.

His explanation, 'Santa cut his beard.' and quickly changed the subject.

SHOTS

My baby was due for his shots today, poor little guy. I always get anxious just before the needle goes into his little leg. I feel pain before he does. My three year old daughter who is with me can see what is happening. She knows he's going to cry. Her eyebrows furrow and she becomes irritated, so she yells at the nurse, 'he doesn't like shots!' She then turns her head and covers her ears with her hands. 'Mom!" she yells. 'He doesn't like it!' As I explain to my daughter what shots are for and at the same time console my baby, it's a reminder that we're healthy and that I am grateful.
